Meat options for non-pork Calzone?
rholt
Posts: 392
So I am making my dad (a non-porker) a calzone for dinner on Thursday. I tried to do a hamburger pizza one time and the meat was way over cooked by the time I browned the meat and cooked the pizza. Thoughts on how to make the hamburger meat more palatable or another non pig option that would go good in a calzone?

I've used leftover spatchcock chicken on pizza so that would probably work in a calzone. Also, I doubt that browned hamburger meat would overcook in a calzone the way that it did on your pizza.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.____________________Aurora, Ontario, Canada

Not to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution...

This place near my office makes a bacon cheesburger calzone that is great. I hate saying this but "you could leave out the bacon" They put onions mushrooms ground beef and cheese inside!

Thanks guys. I will try hamburger again or my buddy may give me some elk steak. Either way I will post the final product.

Ha ha ha. Oh man that is hilarious. On a side note, would you go with sauce in the calzone? Cheddar or motserella cheese? Considering I go with the cheeseburger calzone idea.

stike used to have the carrot grating one.
On a serious note: I did a duck pie in the summer and it was awesome!

Ha ha ha. Alright. He cooked up some blackstrap yesterday but he may end up giving me some elk hamburger which should be delicious.

I've been looking high and low for that to no avail. I did find this:Little Steven said:stike used to have the carrot grating one.
