Transporting cooked Turkey
I will be taking a whole bird to relatives. I will cook it on the egg and then transport. Its not that big 12#. I will be smoking it at 325. After its done I'm thinking wrap in foil, towel, cooler. How much time do you think this will buy me?

Saw a blurb on Fox this AM...the guest was from "Butterball" an expert on turkey prep... and she was asked this same ?. Her answer was FTC and she said it would keep for about 3 hours.Opelika, Alabama

I'm cooking mine using the Naked Whiz recipe. Do you remove the stuffing (onions,lemons, apples, etc.) before transport?

IMHO...I would leave the stuffing in to help maintain heat during transport. Can't hurt !Opelika, Alabama

IMHO transporting FTC will soften the skin and make it rubbery. I don't really see an alternative method working any better though.Good luck!

Have to transport a cooked turkey 1.5 hour away this Christmas. Going to try putting it in a preheated Igloo thermo electric cooler running in warming mode. When I tried this empty for extended period, it stabilised at 161F, so I figure it'll probably be in the 140'ish zone during the drive. Hopefully the skin won't be too soggy/rubbery.canuckland
