Cleaning my BGE

"It is not necessary to clean the inner walls, unless the coating becomes excessive."[p]I think I've reached that point. How do I clean it? I foolishly let the egg get get too hot while heating and the hood is now completly black. I think I can taste it in the food, but I may be wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks.[p]Jason

  • Jason Williams,
No problem. As long as you use the Egg, it will be black. If you feel the need, you may take a scotch pad and rub it down, just don't use any kind of cleaner or soap. One other way you can clean it is to run the temp up around 600 for short period. Just be careful not to keep the high temp too long or you will toast the gasket. [p]Jerry

  • Jwirlwind,[p]I toasted the gasket already--sigh--that's how it got black. I went away with the vent fully open at the bottom and completly off at the top. I was gone for 15 minutes. It's new--two weeks old. I thought it would get hot, but wow! Thanks for the Scotch pad idea. I'm waiting for my new gasket now. I thought the quick heating thing was hype. I know now it's not.[p]Regards,[p]Jason

    Jason Williams,
If you let your egg get too hot for long enough it will turn white again..not black...think self cleaning oven, when you get around to cookin pizza`s you will see what I mean, don`t sweat the black stuff as long as it aint flakin off, which is when you need the scrubber pad, otherwise just keep cookin...HTH[p]Wess

Jason Williams,[p]I found out the hard way tonight about cleaning the BGE. I have not used my large at home for any hi temp cooks in a while and the sides had accumulated a good coating.[p]Anyway, tonight I wanted to make pizza and fired it up with the plate setter and pizza stone. When it finally got to temp, it was kicking out smoke like there was no end. It was burning off the walls of my egg. It took forever to finish before we cook put the pizzas on. [p]I'm now going to do a regular burn after cooks to "clear the tube" and keep it clean.[p]My walls on the egg are white now. I'll clean all the ash in the morning.[p]Cheers,[p]GM
