Lake House

As most Texans know, the drought has been horrible for our properties...especially our lake houses.

This is what the lake house looked like in May and two weeks ago:

This is today and we're so freaking happy about it:

One of the reasons I just sold the boat I had on Lake Travis. Which lake are you on?

Behind me under the car port. I don't think any of the water toys have touched water in nearly two years.

Sweet! I heard from a friend in Corpus that the lake was full. Didn't know whether to believe him. Hope the tanks at our ranch are filled.

It was a good weekend.  Finally talked my FIL into getting a egg after the steaks I made on the gasser didn't compare to my steaks off the egg.  Flavor was good, but the gasser just didn't get hot enough to get a good sear on it.  The biggest problem was the meat...little to no marbling and appeared to be grass fed.  Results were way tougher than my usual.

It was a beautiful night as it was pretty much a moonless night without a visible cloud anywhere.  So, I had to pull out the camera and tripod...

It's good for now...but the damn environmentalist have already opened up the damn to let water out.  They don't think we need water!  :(

  • Cazzy, your photos are VERY impressive!  Awesome!  I'd love to hear what your setup is.  Boy do you have clear skies too!
I'm waiting on some 70mm, 40degree binocs.  Our skies are anything like yours but they aren't horrible.
    Nice pics!

Those were taken with a Nikon D600 body and a Nikon 14-24 f/2.8.  Used a remote shutter release and a Manfrotto tripod.

Thankfully, there isn't too much light pollution.  I eagerly await taking a trip to Canyonlands National Park and taking some photos where there isn't any visible light.

    Thanks!!

Shot them at 14mm, F/2.8, 30 second exposure, and at ISO 3200.  I did enable Long Exposure and High ISO Noise Reduction.  At 14mm, I could have gone a little longer on the exposure and dropped my ISO a bit as I wasn't getting any hint of star trails.  It was my first time shooting stars, so I'll tweak my settings next time.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Looks great if you hit up canyon lands you will be in my neck of the woods (well a few hours away). You will get some big stars there

On our lake they also opened up the lake to drain it, they argue that they need to fix the flood gates. We had 2 years drought and they could not fix them then. Its just too darn stupid!!

The bike is a BMW GS 1200 wet head.

I agree...it's incredibly stupid. There is nothing more upsetting than having a lake house...then having to walk past your dock to reach water. I'm pretty sure they will find some reason to drain the water, so we're trying to enjoy it while we can.

I thought it was a BMW...very very nice!!!

Strong work on the star shots Cazzy. I haven't seen a sky like that in years. Can't wait for some middle winter horizon shots when I go camping.
