First amateur bbq comp

Entered a bbq comp this past weekend. Entered in for chicken, pork ribs, tri tip, and carne asada. Went there to represent with the large bge and small bge and the vision Kub. Overall out of 21 teams, we were able to place 3rd. Not bad for our first time. We were only able to place 2nd in Bbq chicken.
Ribs ended up over cooked, fall of the bone whoch i was upset about and the tri tip needed bbq sauce of some kind. Next year I am going to treat the tri tip similar to a brisket as far as easoning goes.
This competition was a fundraiser for youth sports in a town nearby. It was busy but fun. A lot of people saw the green eggs and said it was very unique. Had tons of questions about it. I really felt like a sales person. Not many people have this type of grills in our town. Most of the competitors had the side burning smokers. Sorry for the pictures being sideways. I am loading this up with my phone.

I have judged many of the major contests, including the "Jack", and your ribs would get a 9 from me (9 is the highest a judge can give) ......good job

Chicken was done the same steps as this guy's site. http://thehogblog.com/?p=1095. I used a local habanero bbq sauce from a guy that lives here in Chula Vista cali. The sauce was not spicy at all. Dry rubbed with Henry's "papa Charlie Greek" seasoning.henapple said:I'd say first place is great... Congrats. How'd you do the chicken?

Thank you so much. I've seen so e great cooks from yourself. But like I said. I overcooked the damn thing. I intended to take pictures as I went on but. It gets so busy that you dot have time to be a photographer.thailandjohn said:I have judged many of the major contests, including the "Jack", and your ribs would get a 9 from me (9 is the highest a judge can give) ......good job

I love my "secret weapon." Being that e are in SoCal there really aren't that many choices for bbq spots. Next year I'm shooting for first.Searat said:Socalcajudo thanks for representing BGE here in SoCal. We're a big secret out here but they love our food.
