I've been wanting to try this out, but am unsure if I will be able to find this specific coffee. Is there a substitute?
I use instant espresso.  You can use any instant coffee or any fine (espresso) ground beans.  Just like you can't taste the mustard, the bark changes so much that any nuances between different coffees will matter not in taste.

I'm excited to be giving this a try tonight. Got some chicken breasts I'll be putting it on with asparagus on the side.

The coffee I used is the same brand of espresso that Mickey uses, only it's not instant. It works fine.

@fence0407‌ Apparently, you will NOT be serving asparagus on the side. Or chicken. Or both. ;)

Funny, I found that exact same coffee. I already made the rub and applied it on some St. Louis ribs for tomorrow. Can't wait!

Mixed up 16oz of @Mickey coffee rub for tonight. If you haven't tried this... Do. Mickey's Coffee Rub INGREDIENTS:  1/4 cup salt  1/2 cup brown sugar  1/2 cup ancho-chili powder  1/2 cup expresso ground (very fine) Coffee. (Has red, yellow&green label) 1/4 cup garlic powder  1/4 cup ground black pepper  Procedure:  1 Mix all and keep in an air tight container.
Mixed up a small batch of this rub, to do my first spatchcock chicken cook. Outstanding. We were so eager to dig in, I didn't snap any pictures. Next time though.

This is a great rub. I look forward using it on other meats.

If it's worth doing, do it low and slow.
