Chipping paint? Anyone experience this?

I've had my egg since May 2013 and cook on it every week. It's been about 3 months now and I've just noticed some very small spots on the lower section where the paint is coming off. The are about the size of a pin head. Functionally the egg is fine, but it kind of ticks me off. Anyone else see this same thing on theirs? See photo below.

Sounds like the paint might have some issues in it or had some air bubbles. If it is an issue talk to your dealer and see what they recommend.

Man... you gave me flashbacks to my days as a seaman apprentice in the USN. :-O

I have seen a couple of those on my eggs before but not that many. They don't affect anything.

Sorry to hear, but what you have is crazing of the ceramic. BGEs are not painted. They are fired ceramics with a glass like glaze fired on to them. Your dealer may try to help you, but it is a common issue with such products. Another form is tiny hair line cracks. Good luck. BTW my medium has/had that issue too and in time dirt fills those tiny holes and you'll never notice them again.

Thanks RRP. They do seem to be tiny holes. I have not found many on the lid, yet. The bottom has quite a few.Dave - Austin, TX

BTW if it really bothers you take your rain cap, or a foot if you were lucky enough to get a set of 3 of them to an art/craft store and match up the color of a small bottle of acrylic paint. Also buy a small paint brush with a tiny tip. The holes will vanish from your eyes!
