MY NEW EGG TABLE !!! --- 2ND time around

Below is the table that I just built. I only have one question.....should I stain the butcher block top the same color as the table, or just seal it and go with the natural colors? Opinions please. I've got a few touch ups to do but I couldn't wait to post the pics. Hope you like. Thanks.

Beautiful table.
IMO, I would seal the top. I like the contrast in color between the two.

I agree with YemTrey, just stain the top looks classy. Nice work

Beautiful table...please put something between the stone and the bottom of the BGE for air flow...your table will get scorched sitting the way it is...

Agree..
Also, recommend you put feet or spacers between your egg and your pavers.

I'll put the feet on tonight. My wife and 6 yr old twins weren't strong enough to lift the egg anymore. The Nest Whisperer

I'd definitely not stain the top, both because a light top/darker base looks better, plus because I've ruined every project I've used stain on; I don't use the stuff anymore.Beautiful table!:-bd___________

That is beautiful! I agree with the consensus on keeping the natural color on the top.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

That is a beautiful table. I bet you come from a family of guys who are really known for being able to build things. ^:)^

that is awesome the only thing that would make it better is a granite top2 Large Eggs and a Mini 2 Pit Bulls and a Pork shoulder or butt nearby and 100% SICILIANLong Island N.Y.

Absolutely granite would be great. Send me $1290 plus a granite cutting bit for a jigsaw and I'll swap it out.Charlesmaneri said:that is awesome the only thing that would make it better is a granite top

Duganboy....that is true. I spent many hours in our shop watching my Dad build furniture. Without his teachings I'd be like a caveman with a clubDuganboy said:That is a beautiful table. I bet you come from a family of guys who are really known for being able to build things. ^:)^

stripedegg said:Wow.....that is really really nice. ExcellentI may be in the minority, but I think the natural look makes it look unfinished. I think a few coats of sealant will darken it a lil bit and put it over the top! You'll probably end up loving it way more. Good luck!Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....

I'd darken the top some but I do think it looks like an amazing set up. Either way, you've got a beautiful set up.

Beautiful table!
I'd not stain it, but it's all personal preference. I almost never stain stuff I make. I use recycled old cypress, so darkens up more than the new stuff with a sealant.
One thing you can do, and I did this on the two tables I built, is soak the top in marine epoxy (this stuff) let it cure, sand, then put a couple coats of spar varnish, sanding between coats. The epoxy soaks up into the wood and creates a super strong dent resistant surface (and water proofs it) and the spar varnish keeps the UV rays from yellowing the epoxy. My cypress top is almost a year and a half old and it still looks new.
When ya building your dad's table
