Raccoon got into my large egg!
Somehow a raccoon knocked off the green ceramic cap and got into the egg and ripped apart a file drip pan. The grid was not in unfortunately. Nice trail of hair and shredded foil all over. It even opened the bottom event somehow and scraped out some ash probably looking for tasty morsels. Large muddy claw marks all around. I couldn't even make this up nor can I believe it. He must have been very hungry. No idea how I didn't hear this with egg so close to the bedroom.
Doing a burn off now to clean it up. How do I lock down the green cap? Maybe that's what I get for leaving the cover off but something tells me he would have ripped it apart.

Put some gasket material inside the green cap so there's enough friction to make it stay on. Damn racoons must have thumbs.

Or maybe a bungee cord from hinge to handle over top of the cap. I would get a trap (or a 22) he will definitely be back now that he found a good meal.Greensboro, NC

Here's what they do with your kind here in Toronto Cen-Tex+1 with @Wolfpack... he'll definitely be back; probably with friends!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. That's why I go 12 Gage. Not readily accessible up there I guess so a spade it was..........I actually trap mine and move them humanely at the house.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

I prefer the non-lethal as well, found this works on racoons, squirrels, neighbours cats and crows. At <400 ft/sec, it just leaves a nice bruise.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Actually, those rifles would lodge inside the coon. I don't kill anything unless I plan on eating it or if it's a rat or breaking into my house. Those have only been used on targets.
I'd use this on a coon...it would hurt, but like yours, probably just leave a really bad welt.

Acn said:twlangan said:I have heard that a tablespoon of Golden Malrin fly bait (available at farm stores) mixed into some root beer in a shallow dish will take care of a coon in short order. The fly bait is a blood thinner - it kills flies by thinning their blood so much that they bleed to death internally. Those that have tried this say that a coon won't get more than 15' away before he's a goner. Keep pets away from it though. Probably isn't 100% legal to use the bait in a way it isn't labeled for, but a coon getting into the Egg is unacceptable. You can also get a live box trap and use some anchovies as bait to catch him. Then all you need to do is "relocate" it. A .22 works great as a relocation device.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. Found some racoon droppings under the lake house. Borrowed a friends trap and baited it. Early the next morning I checked to see if I caught it. Caught that sucker only it wasn't a raccoon, wrong color, black with a white stripe. The rest of the story better left untold.

@nolaegghead You'd attack a coon with a Festool Sander? You're one crazy SOB! )Mark Annville, PA

Bastard came back. I had strapped down the top with bungee cord which was effective but he still managed to open the vent at the bottom. I have no idea how but there were paw/claw ash prints all over and the rubber vent slide covers were on the ground.
It's on now. If this wasn't on my deck I'd make a flamethrower trap.

I prefer coon raised direct with some hickory and apple wood.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
