First pizza cook

Thanks for your help here. This is my first green egg pizza. I was a bit worried about burning the crust so I probably took it off too early. Any suggestions for a good pizza sauce to go with it and would smoke add a good taste to a pizza?

    Nice pie

  • That looks like a darn good pizza.

I use a simple pizza sauce:

    1 large can tomato puree
    1 Tbsp. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, crushed and minced, or 1 tsp. granulated garlic
1 small shallot, minced, or 1 tsp. onion powder
    1 sprig basil leaves, chopped
    2 sprigs thyme leaves, chopped
    2 sprigs oregano leaves, chopped
    1 sprig rosemary leaves, chopped
    Salt and pepper, to taste

Combine all in 2.5-3 quart saucepan and stew over low heat, covered, for 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally.

I can't speak to the effects of adding smoke wood when doing pizza, as I've never tried it.  I've put smoked things onto a pie (pulled pork), but haven't smoked the pie itself.

Good lookin' pie!! Especially for your first one!

This is, by far, my favorite pizza sauce. Absolutely awesome!! On any style of pizza, from NY to Chicago.

I've never smoked a pizza so no help there. I do most standard pies at about 500° with the platesetter, legs down and this setup to raise the stone up in the dome. Three terracotta planter feet and a mini woo.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!
