Well, I finally got the nerve up to post to everyone. I picked up my BGE at the Waldorf Eggfest (my first Eggfest, but not my last). Jaymer great mullet! I just wanted to thank everyone for the great food and fellowship.
My first selection of food, with which I broke in my egg, was small a break with BBQ tradition. I decided to use my stone and bake some "Pita Pizzas". At 475F for 10 minutes, they came out great. I ended up making 5 before my family cried, "Uncle!"
The ingredients included, sweet Italian sausage, pepperoni, Virginia ham, roasted red peppers, marinated artichoke heartsand portabello mushrooms. I made a simple red sauce by adding some olive oil, basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper, to canned crushed tomatoes. For cheese, I sliced buffallo mozzarella. The pita bread is a 14" round pita that we buy locally at Shoppers Food Warehouse, here in VA. After baking and before cutting, I grated some fresh Parmigiano Reggiano over the top.
We pretty much mixed and matched what ingredients we wanted. I must admit that my wife's white pizza was excellent. She just used olive oil on the pita and added cheese, artichoke hearts, roasted peppers and sausage.
All in all, My family is really enjoying my new adventures in Egging!
