I am upgrading my stones to the Shapton glass stones. They are splash and go you don't have to soak them first. I recently ordered a fine grit ceramic honing rod for touch UPS and hate it. Found out that most honing rods are around 600 grit and even the finest grit rods are only 1200 grit. I start at 1000 grit when I sharpen my knives so basically I dull my knives with the rod. I am getting 1000/4000/8000/ and 16000 grit stones so I can do a couple passes on the 8000 and 16000 for routine maintenance between sharpenings.
