350 Miles for a used large BGE. Should I be committed?
So I've been lurking around this and other BGE forums for 3 or 4 years now, but could only watch and salivate over all the great food being cooked on the egg. That was until earlier this summer when I saw a craigslist posting for a large egg. $450 bucks and It came with a stand! I immediately called the poster and told him I would be by to pick it up that night. Assuming it would be sold quickly. That was until I realize that he lived almost 350 miles from my house. Bummer. I thought for sure it would be gone by the time I could get up there, but to my surprise no one wanted to drive that far for an egg. Except "Crazyman" as I was called by my friends, family and the former owner.
So I ask you my fellow "Eggheads" should I be committed or commended for taking the time and effort to score a large egg for $450?

Crazy? No. Impulsive? Maybe. I recommend saving up a little longer and get yourself a Demo egg or a new egg. Suppose you drive all that way and there is a huge crack he "forgot" to tell you about. You will have no warranty. Plus, you have to consider the added cost of gas and time...LBGE, Weber OTG w/ Rotisserie, Weber Genesis S-330, Chargriller Duo, AR-15, AK-47

So I am unclear, I guess. Did you get the egg or not? If so, congrats... Your life has just been changed forever....LBGE, Weber OTG w/ Rotisserie, Weber Genesis S-330, Chargriller Duo, AR-15, AK-47

Maybe I should of been a little more specific in the post, but I bought it at the beginning of the summer and have been egging it ever since. It was in very good shape with not one scratch.I know all the rules, but the rules do not know me.

About 15 months ago, I picked up a medium Egg with a nest and side tables for $350, that was 3.5 hours away. I jumped on it. With today's gas prices, I would have thought much longer about it, and probably missed out on the deal. There's a guy that 2.5 hours from my house, that's trying to sell an XL for $500, but it has a crack in the base. He's been advertising it for over a month. I want to email him, and ask if he's the original owner, because if he'd just go through the effort of getting the base replaced under warranty, the Egg would be gone in hours.350 miles (one way) is quite the haul. I agree with JerkChicken - for what it'll cost you, plus gas, you could get a demo Egg with a full warranty, at a Fest. Add in the cost of the nest and side tables, and you're back in the "is it worth it?" category. Decisions, decisions...BJ (Powhatan, VA)

Now that's dedication!
But that distance makes you have to recalculate the price - $450 + 35 gallons fuel + a day of driving.....

It's all a moot point people. @J_Que already has it and he's been cooking on it all summer. The question isn't if he's crazy, it's "WHERE ARE THE FOOD PORN PIX?"Flint, Michigan

I drove 5-1/2 hours, one way, to take my daughter a desk we wanted to get rid of and she wanted it. Took her out to eat, got in the truck and drove back. Maybe we're both nuts.

I live upnorth in Canada and drove 250 one way into North Dakota to buy my LBGE. Of course we made a weekend out of it but the main reason I drove that far was the same"package" at home was just shy of $700 more including the tax man. Even with my gas, 2 nights hotel and eating out, i was still ahead. Just telling the wife we are going away for the weekend make it easier to justify.
