Gasket removal

Mornin' Freddy,
A putty knife would be fine. Watch the sharp corners though, ceramic surface is soft. When gasket is off sand by hand with mabye some 120 grit paper or vibrating sander. If your experienced with a belt sander you could carefully use that.
I think The Whiz has some info on his site re: gasket replacement.

Freddy, I read somewhere on here that Goof-Off worked really well.

Morning sigmore,
Not sure if the very pourous surface of the egg would be a problem using Goof-Off. Great product though, use it all the time.

badbruce,
I have used both those it's and it ssure helps speed thing up. You also need to clean the surface with rubbing alchol so you have a good clean surface. One big trick is to lock the hinge assembly together before removing it.

Morn. tach18k,
Would you explain that please. Only the right side of my brain is working this morning.

I have removed several by the scrape method.[p]Last time I used Goof-off but I think lighter fluid would work also.[p]Just soak the felt and wait 30 - 60 seconds and lift it off.
If a section doesn't want to lift, soak it again, wait and lift.[p]There will be adhesive residue remaining on the egg that will take several cycles of squirting and rubbing with paper towels to remove.[p]I also then flamed the edge with my MAPP torch to remove the fluid residue and/or any gasket glue.[p]This was is only about a jillion times easier/faster than scraping.[p]Toy Man

Toy Man,[p]Thanks, I use MAPP gas as a starter - that sounds like a great tip for final residue removal.
