A little while ago i was with some friends who cater events. He had a plate that he set on his burner to give an even heat and not burn the bottom of the pot. Could this have been a pizza stone? Maybe a thinner one?

Doubtful. Probably a piece of refractory material or asbestos. A pizza stone isn't thermal shock resistant - it's ceramic. Not having seen it, I'm just guessing.

Thanks for the response.
Now how do I delete the accidental (re-post)

Other than post a bunch of inflammatory language so the moderators remove it (with the unfortunate side-effect of getting banned), I have no idea
I wouldn't worry about it.
