When smoking butts/briskets, where's the best place to put the smoking wood? On top of the lump? Mixed in with the lump? Thanks to all.

Fairalbion,[p]I'd heard of folks doing both, and that's what I do now too. A couple chunks on top and one or two mixed in the lump so they burn later in the cook. Supposedly this gives you more smoke throughout the entire cook, seems to work for me, of course you have to get used to just how much to put in for your tastes.[p]TUS
