Green Egg Table Tile Tabletop

Hi -

Showing photos of a large table we built for our Large Green Egg.  We used redwood and tile from the Fireclay tile boneyard in San Jose.

Tile works out great for the tabletop!

Nice table, I want to thank all table posters. My wife says she wants a table ( I only have a mini) from seeing the pics so she says I will be due for a larger egg and table so they can sit side by side.
I am in no hurry, but the tables have that appeal I guess for someone who does not care to bbq herself.

I like it! I'm amazed at how much stuff is spilled on the table when cooking / preparing food. I think the tile will prove to be priceless in the long run.

That is seriously impressive! 

We love both of our tile table tops.  My wife's is in good shape but mine is over 4 years old and is showing it's age.  I've been tempted to take it off and do a new one.  Your pics fan that flame! 

Did you use any kind of special grout?  Mine cracks in the winter each year since the tile and wood contract at different rates.

Nice!  Just like a tile floor, seal the grout so it doesn't pick up stains...

One way to stop grout cracks is to use cement board as base. It is way more fire prooof than wood and expands / contracts much more similar to tile.

"U the big dog in the neighborhood with that table"  I think the whole rig is Killer....any ideas what kind of money you have tied up in it???  love the color of the tile and pattern.  Remember if you ain't the lead dog in the pack, the view is all the same from behind....

Thanks for the compliments!  To answer most of the questions....we used backer board under the tile.  We used just a basic grout from home depot.  Living in Northern California I am not expecting wild extremes in weather so that seemed to be okay.  Will cover when it rains.  The total cost of the table was about $400.  $200 for the redwood and nuts and bolts and another $180 or so for the tile.  We actually used tile from the Boneyard of Fireclay tile otherwise if we bought retail it would have been closer to $28-30 dollars a square foot!  Most tile manufacturers have a boneyard.  The tile is perfect for spills or just laying stuff down on.  My only design change would be to lower the bottom shelf and just raise the egg up on a step box so there would be more room underneath.
