Metal cart with terrazzo table top

This took a while to build. I bought my Medium BGE in january 2012, and immediately discarded the nests as too unstable when driving around. I spent evenings looking at homebuilt carts, and came to like this metal cart but then without the folding table and with another table top.
At first I wanted Corian but that is not completely heat-resistant and quite costly. A friend suggested that for that price I could get real terrazzo made. Talking to the terrazzo man, he said I could have any shape I liked, so I went ahead and designed a top with round short sides, to add some material to the table top around the hole for the egg. The hole for the egg is also moved 25 mm towards the front to avoid the terrazzo around the hinges being too thin. Since I wanted the BGE almost flush with the table top I created extra room for the hinges. If you want this too, notice that the hinges in open position need even more room, so do your measurements with the top open. On the other side I left a smiley-shaped hole to be used as a handle to move it around. For color I chose off-white with orange accents to create a warm look.
For the frame I used 25 mm square tubing, and sawed it all by hand in 45 and 90 degree angles. To support the BGE I used 8 mm massive round rods, which inserted into pre-drilled holes so needed minimal welding for a clean look. A massive steel rod I bent in the same curve as the short side of the table top, and added 5 hooks which I bent around a piece of construction scaffolding to make them all the same curve. We also added little 'ears' where the sides of the cabinet could be attached. For the wheels I ordered the same alloy wheels that I have on my Hartman Da Vinci lounge beds, and the biggest caster wheels I could find. The same friend who suggested the terrazzo is a professional welder, so he did that and I did the clean-up.
Another friend turned out to work at a place that does powdercoating, so it was galvanized and powdercoated for a very interesting price. I'm now looking for the cabinet sides, and door hinges and handle. I want them to be those heavy chrome-plated retro refrigerator style.

Very nice. How is the clean up on it. I would love to see the egg in it. I think I would add more hooks and a bottle opener. But thats just me.

Rich_ie,
The cleanup after welding was just removing the welding remains, and then powersanding the welds to a smooth finish. I put in a lot of effort in reching a smooth finish, more than needed because the electrolized zinc and especially the powdercoating smooth out the surface a lot.
As for more hooks, I already have 5, 1 more than I need, but I just discovered I can hang the BGE top vent on the last one, so always planning 1 more than you think you need is a good idea.
Bottle opener I don't need, I drink red wine from those 3 liter cartons with a plastic bag inside. The wine stays very good in there, as no air at all comes into contact with the wine for the complete lifecycle of the 3 liters. The plastic bag just becomes smaller.

Put the egg in, and was relieved all the dimensions of the hole were OK. Even with the top open.

The terrazzo top with handle to push the cart around.

Why I don't need a bottle opener...
On a 23-day white-water kayaking expedition in Chile with a group of 9 belgian and dutch kayakkers I discovered Chilean wine. Top quality, ridiculously cheap in Chile, and quite affordable here in the Netherlands (12 euro for 3 liters). These 3 liter bag-in-a-box last me about 2 weeks on my own, and taste good from day 1 to day 14.

Very clean lines..Nice.

If anyone is interested, this table is for sale. I live in the Netherlands, so might be only practical to buy if you live in Belgium/Netherlands/Germany.
No shipping, pick it up in Weert, Netherlands.

Nice Work, now we need to see that terrazzo all dirty from cooking and some cook picsLBGE - I like the hot stuff. The big dry San Joaquin Valley, Clovis, CA

@slovelad, the picture was taken in the sun, the color is actually very light pink.
@logchief, as terrazzo is used as regular kitchen top, it is very easy to clean, and never stays dirty for long. After I built my outdoor kitchen I moved my BGE there, so this one will nog see any more cooking activity from me. That's why it's for sale.
