Building an XL Table

I decided to see if I could save money by building my Egg table. I spent $105 at Lowe's for treated lumber and deck screws for my table. All six legs are 4 x 4's and the framing is 2 x 4's. The table frame is 90" long and 33" wide. The top and the main shelf will be covered using 5/4 x 6 decking. The pictures are my starting materials and an in-progress picture where I stopped for lunch. I still have 4 more cross braces to add to the bottom frame.
I have one XL BGE and I am about to buy a second one and I wanted to have a table to accommodate both eggs. This is one massive table!

That is going to be 1 Giant heavy table. Will it have casters?Bx - > NJ ->TX!!!All to get cheaper brisket!

No casters. It isn't gonna move once it gets loaded with eggs.
-
That's going to take 6 men and a boy to move that thing... without the Eggs.

I'm almost done with this massive table. I used treated lumber. Does anyone have a suggestion on how long I should wait until staining it? I have heard everything from 1 week to 6 months.

Here are a couple of in-progress pictures of the table. All that's left is to cut out the two egg holes.

Since we're going into Summer, I wouldn't wait more than 2-3 weeks before sealing it—less than that if it's getting lots of sun. Congrats on the double XLs!

It's gonna be in the sun in 100 degree Texas heat this weekend so hopefully I can stain next week. The second XL is a Father's Day gift. Can't wait! Here is the final table.

that looks like a heavy sumbitch. nice work!
-
AWESOME. Jealous for sure. I just bought my XL yesterday. I've gotta start building my table today before I can bring the baby home.
-
That looks great! Even if it had wheels it wouldn't want to move. I built a 66" long table.for a single XL and that sucker is difficult to move! In terms of treated lumber, was it wet and heavy or drier and light when you bought it? Typical recommendations are 30 days before finishing treated lumber, but the heat in tx may shorten that time.Rochester, NY - XL BGE

As a deck builder, I always recommend waiting 6 months before treating. You can probably go a little sooner in the heat of the summer. Maybe 3 months or so. That's my 2 cents. What are you staining it with? I'd recommend using Sikkens SRD. It is, by far, the best deck stain I've ever used. You can find a local dealer on their web site.

I decided to wait 6 months to stain after talking to a local deck builder. I am planning on using Cabot Mahogany but I will check out the Sikkens SRD. The table was a beast to move to the back yard but it now has a second XL in it and I am in Egg Heaven.

I am off to Lowe's to buy materials for my table. Just one XL not two but still. I think I'm gonna put some wheels on it. I don't want to build with pressure treated but this is my first table so we'll see how it goes. WIsh me luck!
-
Good luck! I thought about casters on mine but I dont ever plan on moving it.

I may add casters to my table. It's heavy, but its nothing a car jack can't lift to fit casters under. My top is concrete, so the top, the pressure treated framing, and the XL egg give it some weight.Mark Annville, PA
