Rain Cap for the Egg/DW........a little help please!

So of course I get home from work and I am really jazzed to fire up the Egg and grill some jalapeno chicken I have had marinating since yesterday. Of course, it's mostly sunny all day, clouds up on my way home and is raining by the time I clean out ash, light and get the Egg going. What, if any has anybody done for a rain cap for their Egg. I have seen a few random pics with coat hanger type rigs with a soup can on top to block rain. I would like to fab something that will block rain from entering the DW but still allow me to open to get to the grub. Any ideas??? Thanks for the help!

I am not convinced it is needed, but how about laundry/dryer vent tube cranked over so the opening is horizontal.

Some people use foil. I think you could use a roof vent like the ones they use for gas water heaters. I'm with Doc though, unless it's a downpour probably not needed.Geaux Tigers!!!

I've got a good healthy, big rain drop rain going on. It's not a downpour or anything. Just a good, steady soaking rain. No fear then??

The roof vent cap things look cool! A lot of ppl use them just search_______________________________________________XLBGE

If your drip pan starts running over you may want to fashion a cap.
No really, I think alot of people cook in the rain. It would be easy to bend a piece of foil over it if you are worried about it. My egg is covered so i can't say for sure.Geaux Tigers!!! -
Thanks people! I did a search and it looks like people have used roof flashing caps and the like to fab rain caps. Pretty cool but I ran out and took off the umbrella that was clamped to the table ( to low I might add ) and as you suggested it worked fine. Didn't notice any problems! Time to eat!!!!!!!!!

I used to use this
Now I use a stove pipe cap from Lowes, a stainless one would be ideal.

Get a 7" stainless cap for a fireplace chimney. It fits snug on the daisy and you can still use it (the daisy)

I've never used anything in the rain but I like some of the idea here for a heavy rain storm.Packerland, Wisconsin

How about just making a place for an umbrella like you have on the patio set.
-
That's definitely and option GL. I actually stole a little clamp umbrella from my daughters wagon and clamped it to my table that the Egg sits in. It ends up about 6" above the top of the DW and kinda difficult to open the dome. I could spend cash on a bigger umbrella but I thought a little cap would be easier. Good ideas here people, thanks!

I have a top from a gas pool heater that was being replaced by my neighbor 6-7 years ago. It was just sitting on the road for the scrappers. Now if I could only get the picture option to work.

I put on a brisket early this morning then got hit with several hours of tropical storm with 40 mph winds and almost 5 inches of rain. BGE could have cared less, kept right on at 225-235 degrees. Had no idea any grill could do that.

I use heavy foil, tear off a square and tuck opposite corners under daisy. Works like a charm, even in heavy rain. The vents mentioned are a great solution and the can photo was pretty cool too. Rain does not stop eggers.

I use a 6" shanty cap from lowes...cost $9 i believe. looks like this .

+1 on the 6" shanty cap from Lowes. It works perfectly. Another poster mentioned 7"... 6" inch diameter fits snugly on the DW, not 7".
-
cheap foil tent. stand the handle of the daisy up, crimp the foil around it as though the handle is a ridge line for the tent, and let the foil hang down each side. too thin to get too hot, also

Ace hardware didn't have a 6" when I assembled mine, but a reducer worked like a charm. It ain't pretty, but it works.Mike
I'm ashamed what I did for a Klondike Bar!!

In a hurry the other day, I took a full wire clothes hanger, straightened it out, and bent it into two loops, one that goes around the top, and one that I then wrapped up with HDAF. As long as the rain is coming relatively straight down, it offers the DW some protection.
