fuel flavor

I am getting a "fuel-like flavor" off my med BGE when I really fire up the heat. I used wicked good charcoal (also other quality brands) and light with an electric lighter. I have had this grill since new and have never used any lighter fluid or starters ,other than BGE starters (quite a long time ago). It only seems to happen only with high heat (did pizza last night, around 600F). I keep it clean and have also burned it off in the past to try to burn off any residue. Any ideas???

Do you have children that may have tried to start it?Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now).

Flavor or smell? Charcoal burning at very high temps doesn't smell as nice as it does burning low and slow.
