I've heard it's good for the lawn or in a garden, does anyone know?

Indeed, lawn and garden. Been doing it for decades.
XXL #82 out of the first 100, XLGE X 2, LBGE (gave this one to daughter 1.0) , MBGE (now in the hands of iloveagoodyoke daughter 2.0) and lots of toys -
Mix with water and it's a non toxic metal polisher. Can also neutralize the lingering smell of a skunk.

been putting it in the garden for years

I hope it's good for the lawn. That is where I have been throwing it.

What are the benefits? I mean, besides an easy method to get rid of your ash.

Is it acidic or alkaline, or does that vary? I would think that it would only be beneficial in your garden if you wanted to correct some ph problem.__________________________________________Dripping Springs, Texas.Just west of Austintatious

Our community offers free (paid for by taxes) soil tests, might check because they offer or u could research for precise soil needs.Newbie Egghead - Just got a LBGE at the Georgia Eggfest! Life is Good!

Exactly. Ash will change the pH of your soil. That can be a bad thing or a good thing depending on what your pH is and what you are trying to grow. I wouldn't put it in my yard.If you were industrious enough, you could use the ash to make lye or soap....
