Mix with water and it's a non toxic metal polisher. Can also neutralize the lingering smell of a skunk.

What are the benefits? I mean, besides an easy method to get rid of your ash.

Is it acidic or alkaline, or does that vary?  I would think that it would only be beneficial in your garden if you wanted to correct some ph problem.

Our community offers free (paid for by taxes) soil tests, might check because they offer or u could research for precise soil needs.

Exactly. Ash will change the pH of your soil. That can be a bad thing or a good thing depending on what your pH is and what you are trying to grow. I wouldn't put it in my yard.

If you were industrious enough, you could use the ash to make lye or soap....
