Just a steak

Fired up the Egg last night, it was so nice outside, and cooked up a steak for me and the wife to split. Seasoned it up with Deep-pit Seasoning out of Montana. Been trying to work on my photography so that I could capture the fire and all.

Plated it up with a salad and some scalloped potatoes.

if the camera has a tripod socket, use one. or even just rest it on a 2x4 that is about 5 feet long. that will steady the camera so that you can use a longer shutter speed and the items that are not moving will be not blurred do to the camera shake.

Thanks for that advice, Steve. I don't have a tri-pod. Guess I need to get one. I'll try the board idea in the meantime.

you can also do this... set the camera for a timed release (like you wold if you wanted to take your own pic, and need time to run into the shot and pose).  set the camera on something fairly stable, make sure flash is off, and set the thing to auto exposure.  then click the shutter and take your hand away.  the camera will then wait the 5 or 10 seconds and take a pic without your hand on it, shaking it.

ultimately you might want a cheapo (relatively) treefrog tripod  good for closeups and digital point-n-shoot stuff.

also, fwiw, i like you one-steak-for-two-of-us thinking.  we cook a single thick steak and divide it between the two of us.  better than two thin steaks, and better than overeating just so that each of us has a steak on the plate.

americans have been led by advertising to think their serving size needs to be massive.  and that's one of the reasons we are all fat bastards. :))

Thanks for the advice, Stike. I think it might also help if I could find the dang book that came with the camera. Hasn't turned up since the move. I know its in the office somewhere.....

We used to both eat a whole steak, but it was just too much food and was never quite as good warmed up the next day. I think that steak weighed about 14-15oz before cooking, so that is easily enough (possible more) beef than 2 people should be eating for just a regular weeknight meal.

    Grif,

This is what's called a "left handed compliment".  You are much too good a cook to post a simple steak for our enjoyment.  I'm sure it was done perfectly, but it's a real yawner.  Can you stretch the limits a bit, like making it steak au porvre or steak diane?

I love the photography.  Those are "brochure" quality pics.   Steak looks good also...

VI - I moved out of my low and slow comfort zone and did Salmon and Squash -- does that count?  LOL

No, bum.  I'm a Red Snapper guy.  Make me proud.  Show me some Red Snapper Ponchartrain or Blackened Redfish.

Speak for yourself!  Steak looks delicious, I think I'll grill one tonight.
