The shad run this time of year and I always get some filets (and sometimes roe), but I usually dredge in seasoned corn meal and fry them.[p]Anyone cook them on the egg?

    NutmEGGer,
My father used to cold smoke shad, we grew up calling them buckies in South County, RI. Shad roe was always a special treat cooked just like you describe. Damn, I miss the good old days, you could go to any of a dozen brooks or streams in the area and get a bushel of shad in half an hour or less.

  • NutmEGGer,
The best use for the shad fillet the side off the live bait. Put it on a large hook fish deep and slow behind most any large dam or large lake in the South for Megga size blue catfish and have some real good eating rather than eating the oily bait.

I ended up putting a little olive oil on them, rubbed them with Raging River Rub and grilled at about 375.
    Excellent!
