Grate size????

What size grate do I need to replace the fire grate on my XL? Also, what size fits on the spider in a lowered configuration? Im bored in Dallas and waiting on my wife to get out of her CPE class. I think I'll go to academy or someplace and get the stuff I have been wanting. Maybe even a weed burner.

On the lower spider configuration I use my CI grid from my large.

They say theirs is 18 1/4" so 18" would work just fine.

Ok, now I see why a Fl boy can't just put a ruler on it and get the size......

Maybe I'll just buy several sizes and take back the ones I dont need.

I got an 18" C.I. grate on Amazon for my spider.  Works nicely.  It's heavy and doesn't slide around if you bump it.

I'm wondering if the fire grate from 22" Weber kettle would fit.

Travis - I use an 18in ci with my spider.  I think I got them both at the ceramic grill store.  Works grate (punn intended)

BGE's 15" and 18' fits the xl spider.   the 15 inch matches up with the lump reducing rings for smaller size cooks.  Here is a pic on the 18.

Travis, did you change the bottom grate as well? If so what did you do, I am wondering if the hi que grate for the bottom of the egg is the way to go?

I have read about that and am also curious about the High Que lower grate. It makes sense that it would have increased air flow. (My god the money I could drop into this thing!!)

There is no High-Que grate for the XL, so if hat is what you are wondering forget about it.  Only for Lg, Sm and Mini I think.

Thats exactly what I am trying to do. I know High Que doesnt make one so I am just going to pick up a regular grill grate from Academy and replace my BGE cast iron fire grate.

The stainless cooking grid for the small Egg will fit as a bottom grate for the XL Egg.

The XL has good air flow with it's huge firegrate already though, not sure if it is needed.

Its not so much for air flow. I have had my fire go out due to clogged holes but, my main goal is to allow the small pieces of lump to fall through.

I'm suprised your fire went out in the XL with all of the holes in the grate.

I thought you were looking for the size of grid that would fit on the spider for doing a sear. I use mine for that all the time so I don't have to wait for the temp to come down to finish for the roast period. That is how I do my tri tips, chops and steaks, of course I do this mostly on the large with a CI for a medium I believe. After all it is just Michele and me most of the time.

So you are going to spend less money and cut poor Nancy (who you will meet in Salado) out. This poor lady is trying to raise 9 children on the little she makes off the real Turbo Grates and you just cut her out Travis. It is cold here in Texas and those children need shoes.
