What exactly is a paving stone ?

I'm getting ready to build a table for my Xl BGE. I read where some are setting the egg on fire bricks while others are using a paving stone.
Call me stupid , but what exactly is a paving stone ? How big are they ? where do you buy them ? Is it the same thing as a solid concrete block ?

Paving stones are basically bricks used for laying down brick driveways/walkways. They tend to be rather thick. The ones I have are a little over 2" thick. I use a couple on my egg table for holding hot things (grill, daisy wheel) to keep from singing the table top.

so are they better than the solid concrete blocks for putting under the egg ? If so why ?

They are the same thing, check Lowes or HD

Thanks, I get it now country boys know pavers as concrete blocks. -
Not technicallythe same, because pavers are impervious to freeze/thaw, but since yours won't be in contact with the ground, that's not a concern
Any brick will do. Need not be firebrick.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
how large can you get pavers ?

You can find them in various sizes and shapes. Most common are 12" square, 18" square, and 24" square. They also make them round and hexagonal, though sizes are usually limited to 12" for them.

I use normal red bricks in a triangle pattern. $1 a piece and no probs.Be careful, man! I've got a beverage here.

Thanks for the info.
24" should work great under the xl.
