DFMT - re-paint or re-season?

I left my DFMT inside my large BGE while doing a nuclear burn to get rid of a summer's worth of crud that had built up on the inside of the Egg. Now my DFMT looks like I've either burned off the paint of the seasoning, I can't tell which. Its a dull white/gray color and has a chalky finish. I've rinsed what little crud was left on it off ad am drying it in my oven. After that should I re-season it like cast iron cookware, or repaint it with grill paint?

TIA,

Dave
