Need Help - with Felt Ring and the Spring Loaded Hinge
Comments
-
Kloss - I'm not sure I'm following the springs but it sounds like they are completely off now? If so, you should consider getting a helper. The springs are actually there to help open the lid so they are expanded when the lid is closed. They are trying to recompress as you open to help offset a bit of the weight. What size Egg?
Felt - easy to replace your gasket. I used a white "nomex" one from BGE and 3M Super 77 adhesive. You could just make a clean cut of your existing gasket and place just that section as well. I don't have the link handy but try a search for gasket replacement and see what you get.

4RUnner - the springs are still intact on the hinge - but I have the hinge assembly off the grill. Maybe its not a big deal???

You have a Large? I do not think it is difficult to reassemble. Sounds like maybe those little white plastic peices that were originally attached to the hinge for shipping and assembly are not on there, right? It might be easiest at this point to take off the spring, reassemble on the Egg, the attach spring with lid open.
Any other thoughts from the group?

Zip ties work to keep the hinge closed when removing the bands if you loose the white plastic things that came with the egg."Pork so tender you can pull it with a spoon." ~Spoon

No worries. If you can you'll want to tie that hinge down. Put a zip tie back by the spring to keep the top from snapping up when you take the dome off. You will only need to loosen the one upper bolt on the side of the band to get the dome off. This is pretty easy. As for the gasket, well that depends on how bad it came "up". If it's just a little where smoke smoke isn't billowing out of your egg, no need to replace the gasket. If the gasket needs to be replace then do that while the dome is off. Need pic.
