Cast Iron Dutch Oven, Whole Chicken ?
EggRusty
Posts: 1
I've been wanting to try using my lodge dodge oven and cook a whole chicken, veggies and all inside and on the egg. Has anyone tried this ? is the result any different than having the chicken just sitting on the v rack over a pan full of veggies? I've got to think the smaller space and piled on veggies, etc will help everything get some great flavor.

Google dutch oven chicken cooks, there are going to be tons of recipes all will work on the egg.
I have done beef and veggies but not chicken.
Just an idea, some chicken stock, carrots, celery, carrots, onions, the bird whole or cut in pieces and some seasoning. Simmer on the egg for about 1 to 2 hours. 360º dome seems to be a good temperature for a simmer in the DO.
Remember no lids, kind of like taking a shower with a rain coat on. Besides if you are going to lid the DO you may as well use some briquettes top and bottom or put in the oven and save the lump.
Should be a great cook.
