How big a turkey can yyou fit in an EGG

next week I plan to cook a large turkey for a family party. The biggest I have tried so far is 20 lbs. Anybody done larger or how did it work out. Any tips would be much appreciated
By the way I am a huge fan of the EGG living in Ireland, where Eggs are scarce, only about 100 in the whole country.

irishrog,[p]I'll roast 22 lb. birds from time to time. 350F cooking temperature with a normal roast time between 12 to 15 minutes per lb. I also will brine the bird.[p]Have a pint for me,

I normally "brine" the turkey in a few pints of Guinness first, it does amazing things to the flavour
Thanks for the help on size, I am tempted to try & fit a 25 pounder in on a turkey cone, I'll let you know how I get on.

irishrog,I know others have done 25 pounders without a problem. One of my relatives says he got three 13 pound turkeys in a large egg on one cook. Good luck!

irishrog,[p]On a cone I have found that as I exceed 20 pounds the bird hits the top of the BGE. If you put in in a prone position I bet you can get to a 35 pound bird.[p]Have another pint for me![p]BillT

here is a link to how i do mine. ..you could easily go to 25 pounds. .. just do a test fit with the cold bird and cold egg to see what works...

Max Thanks for the link, theres a huge amount of information there. I'll post again next week after the event and let everybody know how I get on. I'm tempted to try a 30 pounder but dont know if I have the nerve. I might need a few pints of guinness to give me the courage.

glad to hear eggs are starting to catch on in Ireland. I was over there in Sept and absolutely loved it! An egg would have definately made the food taste better!! Anyway, i cooked/smoked a 26 lb. turkey for my daughter's first communion. Once i got it sliced it lasted only a few minutes. I did it indirect on a v-rack over a drip pan. AWESOME!- DanO
