I bought a Large BGE off craigslist last night.
It had the stand and the heat deflector with it. It had not been used much.
So I put a pork butt on it overnight. WE will see how that turns out.
I am not sure the lower vent is installed correctly. It looks to me like it can not be completely closed ever. In the fully closed position, there is room to get 1/4" of air by it. I was able to get the egg to smoke at 240-260 through the night. Should I trust the dome gauge? I did list night but I haven't opened the grill check anything yet. Are these reliable once calibrated?
Are there pictures of how the lower vent should look?

Once calibrated it should work ok. Most people here will tell you to switch it out with a Tel-Tru thermometer. They are alot more accurate then the stock one. You will have a hard time controlling lower temps if you have a 1/4" air leak. Plus it will waste your load of lump if you can't put out the fire. Just some small adjustments should do the trick. check and see if the screen is in front of the door or behind it it might have just slipped over it. change it the other way and I bet it closes
and there are directions to calibrate the thermometer here on the board :0 easy to check it and a cheep thing to replace if needed -
When the slide behind the screen is all the way to the left. I can see through the screen that about 1/4" of the screen on the extreme left is still open. It is like the part that slides behind the screen is not long enough. I will try to post pics when time allows.
Pictures of a lower vent put together properly and fully closed would be greatly appreciated. -
mine the screen is behind the door, yours sounds backwardsfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

this pick has the guru adaptor on it, but see the screen and vent door on ther right, you could have the door on backwards as well. the vent cover door has a bent lip that goes to the right, screen bent lip goes to the left, screen behind door

This post shows the screen closed and the door on top open about a quarter inch.

I think you are correct. Mine has the slide on the wrong side of the screen. THANK YOU!

I'll bet that your stainless steel draft door in installed in reverse. I mean the little handle is to the left and it should be to the right (this could be true of the screen too).
Nice job on getting an Egg. One of the few things you'll be happy you bought, forever.
