Cheap Marble Solution for Table

I am working on building a table for my new (and first) large egg. I will try to post pictures of process when all is done.
I like Naked Whiz plan including a cutting board in top of table, and have read a lot here about trying to find marble scraps and get them cut, etc, but that seems to still be $50 or more. I stumbled across a reasonable alternative and thought I would just share it here--marble pastry boards. I found a 16 x 20 white marble one at a cooking store at Tanger family outlets for $29. Same white one is about 49 at Amazon. Amazon also has a dark green one that is a little smaller 18 x 12 for about $22. This link may work http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Home-4-Inch-Marble-Pastry/dp/B0001V2A1K/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310342748&sr=8-1-fkmr1
Anyway, seems like the marble pastry board may be a reasonable solution for table top work surface for hot items, etc.

If you can find a friendly local granite company, many have scrap piles. This 30x60" table cost A slab of ribs and a 6 pak.

Richard--I think what you did is a great idea, I just lacked the time due to family matters, work, learning to cook on the egg, etc, to pursue that route. I was glad to stumble on the marble pastry boards as a cost efficient and quick way to get a board in my table.
