I had to power wash my deck a restain for the 2nd time in less then a year ... the pork butt stains were just gettin horrible! I don't have wings on my egg and when I add charcoal or wood I get grease dripping all over the deck .... anyone have a solution?[p]Thompsons may keep water out but it wicks grease straight to the wood![p]Burned my first hole (about an 1") in the wood after almost 2 years of eggin ... even with TRex'n ... just careless movement of lit charcoal.[p]Anyway ... I think I need to put down a fire/grease proof rug on the back deck.[p]Doug
ps - the only thing worse then the deck is the glass table ... I don't even want to go there ...YIKES. Now where was that 409?[p]

    Smoked Signals,
I'm on a concrete patio. The black stuff from the back-pressure pops and blasts comes off fairly well with the power washer. But those grease spots have to fade out with the dog licking them and Mr. Sun. Am getting lots of cracks due to annual frost heave. Once I find an anti-heaving solution, I'm then going to look into coating options, including Egg-resistant ones.[p]Oh yeah, my gardening bench is really getting the skid marks too, because that is where I set the grate when prepping for another cook. The power washer gets most of it, but there is a stain.

  • Smoked Signals,[p]Just a thought but you could get one of those matts from Home
Depot or ? that is fire proof and put it down on the deck when
you use the BGE. You could also use one of those metal oil
pans that you put under your car for oil drips, on the deck
while you BBQ to protect the deck, then put it away when
not in use. I put one of them under the fire box on my offset
firebox to protect the patio from hot / cold charcoal and ash.

    Mornin' Smoked Signals,
I have a nice aurora of burn spots around each of my eggs. The grease spots I have are due to wire brushing the grills on the top rails. When I rebuild the deck in a couple of years I'll install a 4X4 sheet of 1/16 inch stainless under each egg. The deck is so old & rotted it's not worth repairing.

  • Smoked Signals,[p]No real problems here that a high power sprayer can't handle. I just make sure I hit it right away. [p]My real problem is that my new Dane puppy (10 weeks old) likes to eat small bits of charcoal! AHHHHHH!!!!! yuck! So now I have to be more careful when I drop some at least for the near future.[p]
