Does It Make a Difference?

So now got firebricks. (Menard's $6.95 for a six pack - no not brew - bricks)[p]After they are heated in the upright position, does it make any difference if I lay one or two bricks on their side as fire barrier? If two, should there be a gap in between them or not?
How many do you use to support the upper grill? I'm wondering in all of this if the number of brick requires more fuel-(more heat) or doesn't it make any big difference once the brick heat up?[p]Thanks for the help I know you will all give me. You all have been so helpful to me the Newbie.[p]Anthony Up North

Anthony Up North,[p] You can use them any way you like. I usually find that two bricks are sufficient to support another grid. When cooking indirect, I will put two down flat to shield the drip pan or meat and stand two up on their sides to support the upper grid. You don't have to heat them in the upright position first. Just put them where you want them right off the bat -- saves on hte burned fingers. Heating the bricks up will take more fuel. If you leave a space between the bricks, meat directly over that space will get the direct heat . . .[p]MikeO

    Anthony Up North,
Gfw and Tim M have great sites with pics and setup for firebricks.

Anthony Up North, yes and no..For low and slow do as MikeO suggested. Its the standard setup for most cooks. [p]BTW..while we are discussing firebricks today, do yourself and others likewise, buy a cheap unfinished 18 inch grill and use that to place your firebricks on. Save your nice porcelain grill for direct cooks. The heat/firebrick combo will tarnish the surface of your porcelian's.[p]
