Hi!
I am looking to cook a pork shoulder/boston butt for pulled pork on the BGE tonight or tomorrow. I have never done this before in my life much less on a BGE. Are there any special techniques/strategies I should know? I assume I do this indirect. Anyone have a particularly good recipe to follow? How long and at what temperature should I cook it?
Thanks in advance to all the great advice I know I will receive.[p]Rick

Revolutionary BBQ Man,
Look on the Recipies section of this site, there is a two part break down on pulled pork that explains technique and some cookiing ideas. Hoping to do my first next week, as my egg will finally be here...

Revolutionary BBQ Man,
Get ready for a long low and slow. It will take up to 16 hours or more to get to the pulled pork stage. The internal temp of the meat has to reach 195 degrees. NO less. You will have to set the dome temp and keep it stable at 250 degrees. Use the Boston butt instead of the lower part of the shoulder. Find a good rubb usually yellow mustard, kosher salt, turbonado sugar and whatever seasoning you like. Personally, I like using hickory smoking chips dry, not soaked.Good luck. Have fun and the meat is untouchable.

I cooked my first Boston Butt on the BGE last weekend and it turned out fantastic. The best advice I found was through posts here which led me to a page by the Nakedwhiz. I simply followed his instructions. [p]

Revolutionary BBQ Man, try this link below for a lot of discussion on boston butts. ANd as someone mentioned, get Elder Ward's articles from the 'Recipe' section (not 'Submitted Recipes') above.

Wise One,[p]How Do you save a discussion string? You must have saved this one and attached the url? I would just like to be able to save some things for future reference with out having to search the archives.[p]Thanks,
