Dome and grate level temp

I know it's been talked about before but I have a calibrated dome thermometer showing 280 on my large and the guru showing 200f clipped at the grate level. This is at the start of my cook with plate setter in. I am wondering if this much of a diffrence is right. Will it even out more as everything (platesetter and egg) heat up? I always figured about 50f from dome to grate? I think I'll stick in a oven thermometer to see what it say. Wondering what others who use the guru notice in temperature between grate and dome? Thanks Jon

    JPF,
Yea it will even out. Right now you are at the beginning of the cook and the air is hot but the mass of cermaic is not hot yet. Give it a little time and you should see it getting hotter at the grate.

    JPF,
Guru or not I almost always experience a large difference as you describe. Even with a pre-warmed cooker. Once the meat heats up ( a few hours) then the temps will even out somewhat. [p]The more cold meat, the bigger the difference. And water in the drip pan can really throw things off.
    Have fun!

Thanks for confirming makes ya feel a whole bunch better! This only my second time to use the guru, guess it will take a little getting used to it. Jon
