Attempting to use my Thermapen for the first time this morning on a brisket that went on at midnight, I had a frightening experience......and was wondering if any of you have ever had a similar one.

I raised the lid on the Egg and when I extended the Thermapen probe from its contracted position, what appeared to be electricity arced from the tip of the thermapen to the brisket and flashed an instantaneous temp read on the Thermapen. It was a good 3 feet from the brisket!! Of course, I still probed to check for tenderness......but my Thermapen continued to function equally quickly all morning!!

Damn, this thing is fast! I went back and reread the packaging container.....and it read "Thermapen.....Lightening Series."

Have yall ever seen one'a these? I called the supplier, and he told me they only come in white!!

Mine is only functional from 1.5 feet away from the meat, you must have the latest model, congrats

Either that, or I got a hot battery!! They recommend storing this thing in a lead shielded housing!!

Not recommended for temperature sensing in body orifices..
