Himalayan salt block in oven/egg -breads & pizza

The other day I contacted The Meadow about the warning: "Do not heat your Himalayan salt plate in the oven. This can damage your salt block and/or your oven. For special heating instructions for oven use, such as baking pizzas or breads, please contact us directly."
I asked: "What about pizza on a big green egg (BBQ) on a salt block? I would like all the info you have for breads on a salt block in an oven also, please.

Hello Trisha,
The best and safest way to use your salt block in the oven is to first heat it fully on your stove top. Once your block is up to temperature you can transfer it to your pre-heated oven and bake breads/pizza on it.
To use your salt block on the grill, I would suggest first heating it with out the lid on.
Putting your salt block in an enclosed space and heating it can cause the moisture trapped within the block or oven/grill to expand too quickly and shatter your block. It is best to heat your block in a way that allows the air to circulate around it, and any moisture to evaporate easily.

That is interesting. Thanks for passing on the info. BTW I was at Sur La Table the other day and they had the salt blocks there. I can't remember the price, but I didn't think it was bad. How much salty taste is given to the food that is cooked on the salt?Large, small and mini now Egging in Rowlett Tx

Austin-I don't have one yet but it looks very intriguing. I have read here it is only a little. I think pizza would be yummy with a little salt on the bottom crust.
At the meadow website they have a different type for cooking, might want to check it out there first, unless the store you saw it had specifically for cooking on.
