benny, If you haven't heard of a plate setter, then I know you'll never fathom the "wiggle rod". Must have piece of equipment. There are many variations, some better than others, but you will need one. Eventually. No kidding.
  • benny,[p]plate setter and grill extender are here: http://biggreenegg.com/whatsNew.html [p]a probe-based thermometer with a 24-30" lead to a digital readout is a must. I bought an inexpensive one from Crate and Barrel, with "alarm" so you can set it to warn you of temps in the meat.[p]Ash tool: does it come with? NOt sure, i got my BGE as a gift and it showed up too. I'm shocked as to how little Ash the Egg makes, but it's nice to have the tool anyways (pulling ash out the bottom vent)[p]and the "daisy" top vent. i use the green ceramic lid only when the egg sits idle. [p]I got the cover, and the concensus seems to be: use it in winter, so your seal doesn't get frozen shut when you want to cook. For now, my cover is with my other supplies in the shed. (if you have lots of angry birds, you may want the cover year round.)[p]oh, and don't go here unless you want some really cool stuff: http://lawnrangerbbq.com/ :)[p](so get a Grid-lifter, too)

    hakalugi,
I just noticed your handle...is that like lean back do a long snorting throat scrape and spit it out?[p]If so, that's hysterical and very subtle to boot..at least to the unoberservant like me....lol.

    benny,
I highly recommend that you go to the naked whiz' web site at nakedwhiz.com and check out two areas first: Info Central and Ceramic Cooking FAQ. All your answers (and things that you haven't thought of yet) are there.[p]As to prioritizing accessories, it depends on what you are going to cook. In pretty short order you'll want a plate setter for indirect cooks and a grid extender (you can buy one or make one--directions are on whiz' site) to elevate foods that you want to cook over a direct fire, but raise them a bit further from the coals. If you like to acquire things over time, get the grid extender first--it can be used either elevated or suspended from the main grid with a drip pan containing liquit to create an indirect cook also.[p]If your egg does not arrive with grid lifter, ash tool, dual function metal top (with daisy wheel) and cover, you should get those items also.[p]Then read lots of posts and look at lots of pictures to see how the wonderful people here achieve results that appeal to you.[p]Happy cooking.[p]Trouble

    benny,
welders gloves are a must, wear them every time you raise the dome until you are experienced with flashbacks. you can veiw one on the naked whiz site, but its not until you experience one that the light comes on. also use them when you cook with a water pan as with turkey, raising the dome will release steam which can burn and ruin your day.

benny, Its a rod about a foot long with the end bent up to make it sort of like this______|. Sometimes the metal grate in the bottom of the firebox get's stopped up with ash and you use it to clean out the holes while cooking. Lawn Ranger makes one but doesn't have it on his web site yet. Just tell him to make you one like he made for Sigmore.
