Spider Steaks

I just cooked my first steaks using the Spider with the XL Rig. The steaks were a crappy cut and only about 1/2inch thick. I just got my rig a couple of weeks ago and read about searing steaks closer to the coals so I thought I'd try it out. Here was my set up:

I got the dome temp up to about 325F or so and then cooked the steaks for 3 minutes/side right on top of the coals. I also threw in some Jack Daniel chips right before I threw the steaks on. After the second side the steaks were already in the medium well range (too done for my taste) with my Thermapen so I simply pulled them and then we ate. They tasted good for what it was. I think this would work great for thicker cuts at medium rare. If need you could put the steaks at the top of the rig for a few minutes after shutting down the egg to bring up the internal temp on thicker steaks. At the end of the cook, here was my dinner:
