Well, I set a new record for consecutive hours with my Medium Egg: 43 hours. Starting Thursday night at 8 p.m. and ending Saturday afternoon at 3:00, the BBQ Guru Pit Minder, Big Green Egg, and Dizzy Pig produced some of the best pulled pork I've made yet - and just in time for the crowd of 40.[p]As you can see here, two 7.5 lb butts will BARELY fit on the Medium Egg:[p]
[p]The first two finished in about 18 hours, the second two finished in about 20 hours. I mean, it was just a thing of beauty:[p]
[p]This crowd of mostly Texas born & bred attacked the large silver bowl of pork like sharks:[p]
[p]I mean, LARGE silver bowl:[p]
[p]And this afternoon as Tiger and DiMarco pulled up to the third teebox, Spring (Santa) Chicken arrived on my doorstep with this:[p]
[p]What a great weekend! Thanks to everyone for the tips and encouragement for this my biggest cook yet, and thank you, Leroy and Judy, for being so kind to store and then personally deliver my lump.[p]This is what makes this forum great, is it not?[p]Cheers,[p]TRex[p]

TRex,[p]My invitation must'a gotton lost in the mail!![p]Is that silver bowl a serving piece..or a Stainless "Kiddie Pool"??[p]PP for 40...........?[p]You are the Master!![p]Chubby
I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
TRex,
Good Lord! You did have a large silver bowl of pork! How did your numbers turn out? Did the 4 - 8 pounders hold any left-overs for folks like me doing yardwork this weekend?

Chubby,
You just don't understand....it was the first big yardwork weekend. I'm so sore that it hurts to blink. Some nice pulled pork would get me back to even keel.Damn, I'm starting to sound like Stumpbaby!

TRex,[p]That looks good! Did you happen to weigh the finished product? As I mentioned in your first post, my yields have been going down. Did you have many leftovers?[p]~thirdeye~
Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Dr_Redwine,[p]Actually, there was a decent amount of leftovers, even though most of the guys went back for seconds. We've already been through one of the bags today (you know, lunch, Masters snack, dinner), and I gave the other two bags away to some good friends.[p]Sorry - it's all gone! [p]But, for future reference, for a group of 40 people, half men and half women, 3 butts should be plenty when you've got appetizers and sides (we had lots of finger foods and a huge pasta salad as well).[p]Full of pork,[p]TRex

TRex,
Great job! I see happy customers!
Thanks for sharing the BIG cook. (Texas style)

thirdeye,[p]Had decent amount of leftovers - I did not weigh the final butts, but I do know that each butt filled about three and a half sandwich-sized ziplock bags, if that tells you anything. With plentiful sides, 3 butts would have been plenty and probably still yielded leftovers.[p]TRex

Chubby,
Will do.

Chubby,[p]The silver bowl was a mother-in-law special. One of the benefits of having a mother-in-law that lives close, you can always depend on her for "out of the ordinary" serving dishes.[p]TRex

Clay Q,[p]I think many of the guys who cringed at the idea of a "couples shower" were relieved when they saw a big bowl of BBQ and chilled beers. I made it my job to make the guys forget they were at a baby shower.[p]TRex[p]

TRex,
Hey... It was our pleasure. But the real treat came later when we got home and opened the H.E.B. cooler you gave us with some leftovers from the party. You didn't have to do that but we're glad you did. A few nibbles told us it is fantastic. We will eat good for a few days. Thanks.[p]BTW, we watched the rest of the Masters when we got home and saw Tiger Woods sink that memorable shot. [p]Leroy & Judy

Spring Chicken,[p]What a great memorable shot that was indeed. One of my favorite final rounds ever.[p]It was my pleasure to send y'all home with some goodies. :-)[p]TRex
