what size to get
what do those who have eggs recommend? medium or large?[p]will a medium hold a brisket? what is the capacity? [p]how much (more) lump per hour does a large burn versus a medium, with the same amount of meat in it?[p]I already have a smoker to handle a big party...well over 100 lbs meat.[p]im looking for something in between..

benny,
I'd get the large. If you grill on it, you get more grill space. You can make larger pizzas in it. At Thanksgiving, you'll be able to roast a larger turkey in it. In general, the common advice is to buy the largest model you can afford. Whatever you decide, you'll love the Egg.[p]TNW

AGREED - Large is your best bet!

benny, I vote with Whiz. Sounds like you like to cook if you already have a larger cooker so most likely you will be happier to start with a large to cook more food. I have a larger cooker and have cooked on several different cookers and I am very happy with the large.

benny, I agree with the Whiz and Bob. The large is a great all-around unit. I usually just cook for two, but I can just as easily cook for 30.[p]A decent brisket might be a little snug in a medium, but there are people on here who can do 4 boston butts on a medium with no huge issues.

Morning Benny:[p]When I got my first egg (Jan. 2002) it was a Medium and I have been able to prepare just about anything up to and including two briskets (see link below) on the medium. I have also squeezed three 8# butts on at one time. The medium can do quite a bit of cooking, but that being said I would recommend getting a large assuming the price is right. I added a large this past March and now have the medium & large. Having both has already come in handy doing two different temperature cooks at the same time. IMHO there is not a better all-around cooking unit. My $0.02 worth.[p]Have a GREAT day!

benny,I like the medium because it has a big enough charcoal pit for a 24 hour cook-- also you don't have to get as big a mass of charcoal going (as a large) to do steaks.

benny,[p]Go for the Large. You can get a very good deal at one of the up coming eggfests in Waldorf, MD or Austin, TX.[p]Waldorf's Demo Egg Deal is $559 and you get the Large Egg - Egg Nest stand - Dome Temp Gage - Slide Daisy Top - Spring hinge.[p]The Texas Demo Egg Deal is $560 and you get daisy top, thermometer, rain cap, spring hinge, stainless steel vent, cookbook, video, egg nest, ash rake, & bag of Ozark Oak Lump.[p]Either on is a Winner.[p]Cheers,[p]GrillMeister

GrillMeister, plus, attending an "Eggfest", you get to learn more about using the EGG than you will learn by yourself in 5 years and eat the MOST incredible food cooked by the most gracious, friendly people you will ever meet! Eggfests are a LOT of fun, well worth a long trip.

when doing butts or brisket, whats the difference in fuel use in your large or medium?[p]Im looking for one to do a couple butts or a couple briskets at a time. it sounds like a medium will do, however, if a large doesnt use much more fuel, bigger is always (well in some things) better[p]benny

thanks! I think it will be a large. the brisket looked a little tight in a medium.

benny, there is not a lot of difference in charcoal consumption between sizes. All eggs are incredibly miserly in burning charcoal. The small uses about 1/2 what the large uses....but large is the way to go for sure on your first egg. You will love it , whatever size you select !!!
