Pinon wood
cactus rib

I was in Lowes and found a large bag of 3 inch chunks of Pinon wood. The bag listed uses for campfires, fireplaces, and chimineas. But it said the wood was NOT for cooking. It was a product from Clovis, NM.
Anyone know why pinon wood should not be used for cooking, or smoking?

I'm guessing that it is a member of the pine family and would produce lousy tasting smoke. -RP

Ditto! The only thing it is good for is fireplaces, campfires etc and the pinon nuts, pignole, when they can be harvested.

Ditto II, a pine tree. Think of tars, creosote and turpentine!

What everyone else said. It's one of my favorite trees, but it's for heating, not for cooking.

It is supposed to repel mosquitoes, though.
