During an Alton Brown show today he mentioned smoked salt. Has anyone tried making this at home? ChuckE

ChuckE, no, I haven't and not trying to be a smarty ass here, but at the cheap price that I pay for Hickory Smoked Salt at Kroger I'm not real sure I will be either - but hey, like I said I'm not being a smarty ass!

    ChuckE,
I ran into a recipe a couple of years ago that called for hickory-smoked salt. The recipe was for some kind indoor-but-tastes-like-outdoor-smoked thing. I went nuts looking for the salt. I did find it but not until years later when I already learned the wisdom of real outdoor smoking (especially with the BGE). As for that original recipe, as well as anytime I do try to fake it indoors, I rely on liquid smoke. I've learned how to use that and have fooled some real outdoor smokers more than once. Bottom line for me; if you're using your egg, get thye smoke flavor from it and get the salt flavor from salt. Just mho.

    ChuckE,
i bought some seasalt on line for use in a new grinder, when i got it it was moist, i didnt know at the time there were moist salts, it would jam the grinder,so i smoked it. very good in a bloody mary, however the smoke flavor didnt seem to stay with the salt if it sat for a few days. some day when it warms up, i will smoke some more and have a big piture of bloody marys for breakfast.
