BGE......What gives????
Comments

Kent - you've got mail! Hate to hijack the thread, just wondering what's up....
-
Jack,
I certainly am not the oldest on this board, but I have been active here for over 11 years now. The rumor pops up from time to time that BGE is pulling the plug on this board due to complaints etc. What people seem to forget is this forum was not created by BGE, nor is it owned by them to this very day! It is a separate endeavor started by the late Bill Miller and now carried on by his son. Mr Miller has alluded to getting some financial aid FINALLY from BGE, but this is not the BGE mouthpiece.
Does the new guy at BGE hate this forum? I don't know, but so far he has a track record of doing some sad and squirrely things personnel-wise and even logo-wise (curved legs with furniture caster balls on the tips for instance!) but how he could shut down something that doesn't even belong to BGE is a stretch!

Kent,,, rumors that are "flying" around I believe were told in confidence and are still just rumors at this point.
-
If they nuke this forum, I will be pissed. Even though I Don't post much, I read and learn from here almost every day.
We all should start an email/ call campaign to complain. If we bombard the mother ship, some bean counter will have to take notice.
This forum is the exact reason I have 3 eggs. I would have been lost without when number one came home. Dare I say the word boycott? -
Thanks Ron.
By the way, how many "vents wide open - clean burnoff" sessions can I expect from the rutland? I did one yesterday and there was zero damage done. Nothing but a clean egg.The Dude: This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! *uck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.Cumming, GAEggs - XL, L, SmallGasser - Blaze 5 Burner -
I doubt much of anything can damage a rutland.....The Naked Whiz

it only 'might' be a stretch.
we've been told it's not owned by BGE, but we (the forum) aren't really privvy to anything
i've heard the same stuff that GG did. and i did happen o stumble on a 'new looking' forum with the new logo, set up hidden as a beta site on another site associated with the new man in charge, so.... not so hard to imagine.
specifics: the where when how are not public, and they needn't be. it remains they don't need to share anything with us.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
interesting discovery, but why members of this forum would follow the new guy like the Pied Piper to his new board still makes me wonder.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I wouldn't worry until you find something to burn inside to get the temp above 2,200° :laugh:Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I hope all that I am hearing is just BS but there are too much information from too many different sources.
I do agree with your feelings though.

RRP.....I was making a comment about gaskets and had not heard anything about the rumors. I am dumfounded by them, but there appears to be a lotta smoke for there to be no fire. But that was NOT the purpose of my post. I am hearing all this for the very first time.
-
Pat I am not at all sure and I hope I am completely wrong and in the future folks will think of my posts as being real stupid. But I am not thinking that is going to be the case.
I haven't had contact with anyone from HQ or has been with HQ in over a year.
I am not sharing or hinting of anything that I has been shared in confidence with me.
Should all the rumors come to fruition maybe someone could contact the Millers and see if the forum base might pitch in enough money to keep this alive.
Kent -
Just sit back and watch..LOL.
-
I sure hope you are right Ron.
There will be a lot of support issues headed their way should the forum go away.
Kent -
Pat,
I'm concerned that some confidential bugs have been put in a few people's ears.
What's the point if not so see how people would "react?" -
call or email azrp.

Why would you suggest a thing like that to me?????

"Located between the Bats and the Aliens"
This is the first time I have noticed...
That is funny!!!

So much for commenting on gaskets.................

That is the way of this Forum

remains to be seen if they will. thing is, one way to encourage migration is to stop supporting this one.
who knows for sure, except the new head honcho. i just have never had the feeling that this place was as important to corporate as the forum has always imagined it was.
take a look at it from the perspective of a cut-n-dry businessman like the new dude. he's not here to shake hands at an eggfest, he's here to maximize profits and maybe take BGE to the proverbial next level.
and so, as a pure business decision, he may say 'gee it isn't great to associate with a forum that offers advice about warranty, gaskets, etc. etc. that aren't exactly in line with the corporate party line. so, start clean, and control the venue.
that's speculation. i have no inside info. but it fits with the rumors i was hearing after i posted a link to that forum. i posted it as a joke "hey, look at my favorite forum. a new forum with no one in it". wasn't til someone sent me an email drawing the connection between the race-day site and the new guy, that it looked a bit more ominous.
we'll see. at the end of the day, it's just a grill. if they want to start making them red instead of green, what does it affect me?
i just think they underestimate the role the place plays in winning over new people (buyers). and the food here is the ONLY serious display of the versatility of the egg. to shut it down, or to try to shunt us to a more sanitized (moderated?) venue is going to cause i few folks to step back and quit pimping the egg so hard for free.
i can say that i think it would be a strange decision to cut off the forum 'regulars' from the BGE party. who the hell is going to cook at an eggfest? but they may not be thrilled with our little cross section of the ownership. it might make perfect sense from their side to set up a sanitized place for moderated discussion (gasket threads vanishing moments after appearing maybe ). but this thing has always been sold by word of mouth. silencing 15,000 of those mouths seems odd. but it's their call.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -

well. be careful if that's your only source. no offense to anyone, but i think it was AZRP who asked me if I was in charge of the new forum and setting it up.
i replied, but never heard back. i hope that the rumors of my being 'moderator' are not taken seriously (as an aside, no one believes anything i say, why the heck start believing something like THAT? hahaha)
don't believe everything you hear.. but don't disbelieve everything either
it certainly looks like there are changes afoot, but i'd imagine only the dude pulling the trigger has the full storyed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
or, perhaps they want to control them. fifty people telling a newbie what gasket to get is a corporate nightmare. think of it this way, if they support this site, and for years we advise lighting the egg with gasoline (or some other 'non-corporate' advice), there is in a sense an implied approval. tacit approval. if you pay for a site where over and over advice that you (the corporation) dislike is given, a point could be made that you approve of it.
i would guess that maybe they are mulling an 'upgrade' to a forum (note i didn't say 'the' forum). new one? changes to this one? i don't know. i think only BGE doesed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
aaaah, yea.

I didn't mean that. If the forum is ending I want to be number one on the search feature

I would doubt many people really know what is going on or what new is planned.
I would have to expect the gasket questions or similar issues have been a thorn for BGE. Other people seeing the posts here and using that as a anti-selling feature.
I didn't know or pay much attention that there was a 'new guy' at HQ. It is pretty common for a new executive to come into a setting, take some time, fire a few people maybe for good reason or maybe to put the fear in the remaining people and move on to his/her 'new picture' for the company. Hopefully on his/her journey not too many people are walked on including the forum folk.
Nice post above by the way.

This BGE forum issue is wide spread across similar user forums.
Example: Taunton publication forums related to the "Fine Home Buiding, Fine cooking, Fine Gardening, etc magazines were all overhauled by new on board VP. The result for the forum uability was a disaster.
What we the users of the forums did was move to new forums oriented to the old content themes. They are on the free Delphi (mzinga) forum hosting site. Most of the old regulars just moved to the new site and the old Taunton site is now suffering from low participation.
