as i posted earlier, i want to do a ham for my good schiksa wife for easter. ..i went to the grocery store last evening. . .bought everything i needed for the dr.chicken's glaze, but when i got to the meat cases, guess what. .. .no hams. ..not even the cheapy in the can pressed ones. . ..meat guy says, "come back tomorrow morning, we should have some by 10:00". .. so 10:00, i head out on my mission to buy a ham. .. first i go to last night's store. .. still no ham. . .then i head for the next safeway. ..still no ham. . .[p]2 more safeways and a harris teater later, still no hams. ... [p]i'm starting to seriously think about buying 10 pounds of tofu and molding it around a rawhide dog's bone and baking that in the egg. . .. its not looking good. .. finally i end up in a giant (at this point i've been on the search for over an hour and driven about 10 miles around the county (thankfully i live in an urban area with a major grocery about every mile - some are right across the street from each other). .. i was about to call home and try to sell my spouse on either prime rib or turkey (both of which she loves, but on easter, i never would have heard the end of not having a ham). . ...thank god the giant had some still. ..HURRAY, finally got my ham....only took 10 miles, 1 1/2 hours, and visits to 6 grocery stores to pull it off. ...[p]as i said earlier, my tribe doesn't have this problem with briskets at passover. .. .wow. . .but its been slathered with brown sugar and dijon mustard, and its smokin away in the egg right now. ...will do the dr. chicken's glaze for the last hour. .. yummy

if I read that right it doesn't sound like you did the injection part of the recipe. Please, sometime do both the injection and the glaze - it's a winning combo. Allocades you will receive make it worth while - let alone the sandwiches later - let alone the ham and bean soup you make from the remainder and bones. Yup, that little piggy runs a long race!

i have to pass a lot of safeways and giants to get to my nearest wegmans. . ..and last time we tried to go there on a saturday, it was so crowded, the cops had closed the parking lot and we couldn't get in. . ..they are great stores though. .. i'll wait till the novelty wears off, then try again. ..[p]funny thing is, i usually buy a smithfield hardwood smoke ham. ...all i could get this time was an eskay ham, cooked, but not smoked. ...we found that with the double smoking and the glaze, it was a consences around the dinner table that this was the best ham ever. ...it came out really good. ..

i know, i know. ..dr. chicken himself is always on me to do the injection. ...i just never seem to find the time to try it out. ...i promise i will one of these days, i have no doubts it will be as good as you guys say... .but i'll tell you, the glaze alone is fantastic. .. .came out particularaly good tonight. ...
