Seasoning cast iron top vent

Anyone else here ever season the top vent? I seasoned one of my larges about 6 months ago while I was reasoning some of my pans and it stays clean by itself now. After 6 months it still spins better than when it was new.

It really is nice. My small top won't move until it gets warm. It's gonna get seasoned next. I have my other large top apart and seasoning in one of my larges now. Took it apart and put it in my egg at 700 for about an hour to burn all the crap off and then 2 separate hours at 400 rubbed with flax seed oil.

Nope, never had a need to. Tops don't rust and the spinners still spin. Go figure.....The Naked Whiz

Sounds like a good plan for you! I saw a post a while back that recommended putting inside the egg when you shut it down. I have been doing that and everything is good...Southlake, TX and Cowhouse Creek - King, TX. 2 Large, 1 Small and a lot of Eggcessories.

If you say so. The cast iron top won't come off my small when it is cold no matter how hard you pull until it reaches 200 plus degrees. This also happened to my original large before I seasoned it.

This might be my issue. I put the rain cap on and put the cast iron top on the lower shelf of the table.

just put it inside the egg when you are through cooking,then put on the ceramic rain cap,you will season it every time.
