Could someone please give suggestions for required ingredients in a basic dry rub? I'm new at this egg cooking and would like to try a dry rub. Thanks.

George Smith, JJ's rub, considered to be the best by most of us, is located in the recipe section of the forum. My personal favorite is the one that I use on Memphis Syle Ribs - it tends to be a little more spicy.[p]Welcome to the world of the BGE - you are in for some great eating EGGsperiences. It's Mexican Meatloaf for me tonight.[p]

  • George Smith,
Look under Recipes. Look under Rubs, Sauces and Marinades and you will find JJ's Rub great on pulled pork, ribs and most anything. I have a Jerk rub there that is great for chicken and pork. Also under Eggtoberfest 99 recipes look for Cat's Ribs and Tri-Tip. The rub I did for the Tri-Tip is good on any beef roast steak or hamburger. This should get you started. Others will chime in. Paul Kirk has written a book specifically about BBQ Rubs Sauces and Marinades that is excellent.[p]Go for It!!!

  • George Smith,
Under recipes in the fork section you must read Elder Ward's North carolina Pulled Pork essaay, its detailed and fantastic.

George Smith,[p]Most rub recipes I see include salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, sugar (usually brown), and paprika. Many of them include onion powder as well. I may be missing a couple, but I think these are included in most dry BBQ rubs I've seen. As others mentioned, JJ's rub (accessible via the recipe section) goes the extra mile to kick it up a notch with many more flavorful ingredients, but I think the ones above are a pretty common base.[p]Cornfed
