USB 3.0 adapter cards

I would like to put a USB 3.0 adapter card into my remaining PCI Express x1 expansion slot. I bought one at Best Buy and was stumped when I went to put it in. It requires a four-pin power connector. I looked and looked but I don't see any spare connectors anywhere inside the box. Does anyone know if all USB 3.0 cards require power from the PC that it can't get from the bus? The device I want to hook up is an external hard drive that runs off a wall brick, so I was hoping that maybe an adapter wouldn't need the external power.
Thanks!
Thanks!
