I know most people cook their burgers on very high heat. Any suggestions on your favorite way to do burgers? About to fire up the egg....

Burgie,[p]Juggy cooks his burgers low and slow but I can't find his recipe in the archives...... Juggy can you repost? .... I'd like to have your method in my recipe files.[p]Thanks,
    John

  • Burgie, For burgers I usually go direct at 350 for 15 minutes per side. Peace...

  • Burgie,[p]I too like to grill burgers at 400º. When I first got my BGE folks used to advise that I cook it on one side for 4 minutes. Then cook it on a second side for 4 minutes. then let it dwell for 4 mintues. (Dwell means close off the lower and upper vents and let the meat sit in the residual heat.) I still follow those directions more or less. If I get my egg a little too hot, I cut down on the cooking times per side. [p]Lately I've been worried about the internal cooking temps of ground meat I didn't grind myself. Just to be safe I've been cooking burgers to 160º. I started doing this after I hanging out in the backroom of a local supermarket and watching'em make ground beef. [p]

<p />Yo John, The link below will take you to the post you are looking for. One thing I might add to what I previously posted is to add the above pictured beer to the list of suitable beers for adding moisture and flavor to burgers.[p]This Belgian (Trappist) Abbey Ale is without a doubt THE BEST beer I have ever sampled and D Beerman has sampled many brands in his 30 year search for the perfect beer. It is so good that it should be illegal. With its 8.5% alcoholic content, it IS illegal in some states. LOL[p]In case you are interested, more information on the Ommegang brewery can be found at www.ommegang.com[p]Ommegangs to you my friend,[p]Juggy

    Burgie,
Slow those burgers down and you wil be delighted. The juggy recipe is a great start. I like to keep the grill dome 300 or less. Use higher fat content meat and lots of smoke. Use the thermapen to check teemp and pull at 155. It may take abiut 45 minutes or more.
We even do up more than we will use. Freeze and microwave for lunch -- they are still outstanding.

Thanks Juggy. So's not to lose it again, I cut and pasted your method into the recipe file.[p]Just called the local beer store and it must be my lucky day.... they carry all of the Ommegang beers and being partial to wheat beers, I'll pick up a couple Wittes as well as the Abbey Ale.... gotta love a beer that asks, "Can a beer be holy?" Looks like we're gonna find out..... thanks for the heads up, mang![p]John[p][p]
  • Yo Mike, Thanks for the kind words. I might have some expertise, but I am no expert! LOL[p]I have not been able to access the internet too much in the last few weeks so that is my presence has been scarce. I still lurk, but I haven't had time to post and reply to any messages I do post. I still try to post once in a while to let others know I am still alive and well........[p]There is a KCBS contest this year at Laurie on August 5th and 6th. This is a good contest at a dynamite location. This was one of Dad's and my favorite contests. Unfortunately, I not only have baseball that weekend, I also have the Nace Bros. along with the Cate Bros. bands performing at my bar that weekend as well.[p]Lager,[p]Juggy[p][p]

  • Yo John, Let me know how you like both styles of beer. I haven't tried the Witte yet. The only three brands the Hy-Vee stores in Lee's Summit (MO) have are the Abbey Ale, the Hennepin Farmhouse Saison and the Vos Amber Ale. Out of the three I tried, I liked the Abbey Ale the best, but the other two are damn good too.[p]Abbey Ales to you,[p]Juggy
